Diabetics Must look after Their Feet

In one-syllable words, diabetes is a health condition that's identified by exaggerated levels of sugar in the body. While diabetes is affecting a number of body organs and has countless effects on the body, it prominently affects the feet. It is for this that diabetics are suggested to take better care of their feet.

Diabetes could have effects on your feet in varied ways. For some, the condition might damage the nerves present in the feet and lead to the condition called peripheral neuropathy. In this condition, since the nerves get damaged, any damage that can happen to the feet isn't simply discernible.

Further on, diabetes hampers the circulation of blood in the body. Since the blood circulation is not normal, wounds or any kind of injury in the feet takes longer to heal. People suffering from diabetes are more prone to feet infections as the resistance of their body to battle infections is reduced considerably. This is maybe why you may find several diabetics suffering from foot ulcers.

If you are suffering from diabetes, you must care of your feet. Here are some pointers that may help you in this.

First and most important thing is to maintain correct cleanliness of your feet. Clean your feet correctly and do this many times a day. Best thing to do in this regard is to bathe your feet with lukewarm water and a good quality antibacterial soap. After each wash, dry your feet properly to ensure that no moisture is left in your feet. Moisture can cause fungus infection on feet. Use some talcum powder to ensure that your feet have correctly dried.

Regular inspection of your feet is a must. At the end of the day, spare a few minutes to your feet. See whether there are any ulcers, cuts, sores or any other sort of bruises.In case you find any, make sure that you go and see a doctor.

If you have to be truly careful about the shoes you choose. Shoes of poor fit tend to hurt the wearer's feet. Double check the shoes you are about to buy essentially fit you well. Shoes should not be too tight either. There should be some room for your feet to breathe. Women must avoid pointed heals.

Further, it is critical that you clip your toe nails regularly. Your toe nails are dirt traps and therefore you want to get rid of them as fast as they grow. Cut the nails properly and remove any mud besieged in the cuticles.
